Inside Texas Tech: Salmonella Research Highlights Lubbock

 Newport, Panama, and San Diego do not seem to have much in common with Lubbock. But now, a new discovery is linking these areas together. 

Salmonella Lubbock, or scientifically known as salmonella enterica subspecies Lubbock, is a new serotype of food poisoning. Traditionally, salmonella strains are named after the location they were discovered in. Marie Bugarel, a research assistant professor in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences, discovered the new strain while testing a known type of salmonella.
