ACL: Norah Jones & Kat Edmonson
For the past decade, acclaimed singer and songwriter Norah Jones has charmed audiences across the globe with her eclectic stylings. She has sold more than 40 million records worldwide and won nine Grammy awards. In this episode, taped on the heels of her latest album Little Broken Hearts, she graces the Austin City Limits stage for her third appearance on the show.
Norah Jones needs no formal introduction to ACL fans, as her Texan roots have brought her to our stage twice before. Jones first emerged with the 2002 release of Come Away With Me, her self-described “moody little record” that introduced a singular new voice and grew into a global phenomenon, sweeping the 2003 Grammy Awards and signaling a paradigm shift away from the prevailing synthetic pop music of the time. Since then, Jones has released a series of critically acclaimed and commercially successful solo albums – Feels Like Home (2004), Not Too Late (2007) and The Fall (2009) – as well as two albums with her country collective The Little Willies. The 2010 compilation …Featuring Norah Jones showcase her incredible versatility by collecting her collaborations with artists as diverse as Willie Nelson, Outkast, Herbie Hancock and Foo Fighters.
Jones’ latest album Little Broken Hearts is the fascinating next step in the artistic evolution of one of the music world’s most consistently intriguing singer-songwriters. American Songwriter called it “the most dramatic and rewarding departure she’s made in her career,” while NPR Music marveled, “Jones fits all of this smart material to perfection…making her sound cooler and more unflappably sophisticated than ever.”
Airs Thursday, January 24, at 9pm on Channel 5.
